Sidsel Christensen (b.1978)

Sidsel Christensen is a Norwegian artist working with a wide range of time-based art, from moving image to performative lectures. Based in Copenhagen, while remaining a working relationship throughout Scandinavia and the UK, she graduated with a BA from Goldsmiths in 2006 and MA in Fine Art from the Royal College of Art in 2010. Christensen was the winner of the Open Prize 2011. In 2017 Sidsel will be showing a major new solo presentation at Stavanger Kunsthall in Norway.

Christensen’s Video Painting series challenges and stretches the boundaries of the medium itself, presenting a natural setting strongly marked by the human presence as to evoke narrative and symbolism. Yet, this figure soon becomes part of the panorama, harmoniously fusing together with the features of the landscape. Very theatrical, ethereal, and metaphysical at times, this work challenges our vision and sense of perspective, giving us access to a mysterious, fictional world, framed within a different space and time dimension.
